Why you are a miracle.

Hello everyone! I was listening to a podcast the other day as I was driving to work, when I heard a pretty amazing fact. It truly changed how I viewed my life, the lives of people around me, and this world we all call home. Did you know that the odds of you becoming a human and not some other animal is 1 in 400 Trillion?! That is 1 in 400,000,000,000. According to NASA, 1 trillion seconds is equal to 31,546 years. So just imagine how big the number 400 trillion is! There are trillions of animals and insects on this planet, and you became a human. The odds of being a human being are so extremely small, but yet here you are! Now that I have freaked you out a little bit, I decided to take this thought just a little bit further. *Disclaimer- if you get squeamish about the human anatomy, move on to the bottom of the page. According to one Harvard study that decided to put the math to the test, the odds of being a human being and becoming who you are today is so small... there are more atoms in our observable universe! The estimated number of atoms in the known universe is around 10^80. For those of us who don't remember high school math (cough* me) that 10 right there is followed by 80 zeros. Just imagine how big that number is.... 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 *phew I think i counted 80 zeros. But yes folks, in case you ever need a cool fact for trivia night that is the estimated number of atoms in our known universe. But back to what I was saying... the odds of you being you is even smaller than that. The Harvard study claims that the odds of your parents meeting is 1 in 20,000. Wow that's actually a lot smaller than I imagined, but let us continue. Let's talk about the birds and the bees- The probability of the right egg meeting the right sperm is 1 in 400 Quadrillion. But what about the odds of your parents coming into existence? Humans have been around for an estimated 3 million years. Lets say a generation lasts about 20 years, that is 150,000 generations. The odds of children surviving to reproducing age thousands of years ago was 1 in 2. So what would be the odds of your linage not breaking for 150,000 generations. Those odds are 1 in 10^45,000 (refer to said math skillz). Wow... is your head hurting yet?! Don't worry we are almost there. The odds of the right sperm meeting the right egg of your grandparents and all your ancestors is 400 Quadrillion raised to the 150,000 generations, which gives us an answer of 10^2,640,000. That's right folks, the odds of you be alive today is 1 in 10^2,640,000. That number is followed by 2,640,000 zeros. The odds of you winning the powerball lottery is 1 in 185,000,000... the number of atoms in the known universe 10^80.... the odds of you being alive today 1 in 10^2,640,000. My point is, you my friend are a miracle. The odds of you being here today to read these words is so rare. If you really break down the math of you being a human and you being the person you are... it is insane! The rarity it is to be here, be human, and be you is purely astonishing. Whatever religion you believe, you have been placed here on earth for some reason. Maybe it is unclear what that reason is, but you have overcome impressing odds. Do not waste the person you are wanting to be someone else, sad, or feeling like you have no purpose. There is so much good in this world. You are here a part of it all. Everything in your life is your perspective. You can either have a good life or a bad one, but that choice us ultimately up to you and no one else. Create the life you want, you have the power too. I truly believe that you are a miracle and you are here for some higher reason. Go forth and live like the miracle you are. Life it to be experienced, journey wisely, Kelly Fitzgerald
