First off, I apologize for not blogging as much... but I just completed the first two weeks of Occupational Therapy school at Georgia State University, and so far I love it! All of my new classmates are awesome people with very interesting backgrounds. It is a good feeling to be surrounded by good people with similar ambitions and values. My professor is also great! He is very funny and he makes learning fun. (All the things that matter!) I am currently taking Medical conditions, Gross Anatomy, and Gross Anatomy Lab. The classes are very difficult, but I am managing to stay caught up with all of the materials. Our first lab practical was on Wednesday and I am happy to say I got a 100 on my very first exam!

I am very glad that I prepared some before the classes started. Below are some helpful tips for anyone one else preparing to go into occupational therapy school. 1.) Study the bones and their markings. You will do this in Gross Anatomy, but it is very beneficial to go ahead and know most of the major markings. You will save yourself from a lot of studying and you will ACE your first exam! Start off strong! 2.) Study the major muscles, their insertions and origins. You will need to know their blood supply as well. 3.) Mentally prepare for cadaver lab. If you are nervous about this, just know it is weird at first, but it will get better after a few days. Everyone in your cohort will be nervous about this, that's completely normal. 4.) Get familiar with spinal nerves and dermatomes. 5.) Take some time for yourself and relax before school starts. Before summer classes started, I took a trip to Cumberland Island!

*After class, classmates and I go to get coffee and study. I am hoping to keep posting, but it may not be as much for the time being! I will keep you all updated with my experiences in OT school. :) Life is to be experienced, journey wisely. Kelly Fitzgerald
